Poor little guy! Over Christmas, Hayes became very congested & had a major runny nose & eyes. Then on the Tuesday after Christmas, he started coughing. Not just a little cough, a smoker's cough. Like a-pack-a-day-for-20-years cough. Let me just say that both of my kids only get sick when our pediatrician is not available. This week in particular, Dr. Bergman took off the entire week between Christmas & New Years. So, on this Tuesday morning, Ansley, Hayes & I went to the urgent care center. THANKFULLY, Papa met us there to look after Miss Priss.
Hayes was diagnosed with RSV, a virus, basically bronchiolitis in infants. Of course they told me there is no treatment, it lasts for 3-6 weeks, & that we just had to "ride it out". Oh, and that if he turned BLUE to rush to the ER. As you can imagine, I did not leave there with much relief.
So for the next day & a half, I watched Hayes so closely my eyes went crossed. Wednesday night, Hayes would not sleep and every time I would lay him down, he would start screaming. This child had not been awake longer than 30 minutes, nor had he cried since he was born, so this was extremely abnormal. He was also wheezing more than before. At 3:30 in the morning, neither one of us had yet to go to sleep, so off to the ER we went. And I had to go alone, which was unsettling, because Brian had to stay with Ans. We were at the ER on New Years Eve day from 3:30 am to 7:30 am. Hayes got a breathing treatment for the RSV & they sucked out tons & tons of yuck from his nose. I wish I had gotten a picture of the breathing treatment, as sad as it was, the mask was a blue dragon...so cute, love Children's Healthcare. He had also developed double ear infections so he got some Tylenol, ear drops & antibiotics. Before we left, they had to draw blood to run some tests. THAT was the worst! Hayes handled it much better than Mommy. Seeing them stick a needle into my 6 week old baby boy was heartbreaking!
Ansley wasn't sick the entire 1st year of her life, so having a sick infant was definitely a new experience, one that I could have done without. Hayes is obviously much better now, as it's 3 weeks after the fact :)
Much Love & God Bless,
Brian, Lauren, Ansley & Hayes
